Looking for a way to grow your locks long and luscious? Longing for a way to liberally nourish your hair without the help of harmful chemicals? This overnight hair treatment uses essential oils, flaxseed, and coconut oil to naturally strengthen your hair.
When it comes to improving hair thickness and growth, Rosemary is the first essential oil that comes to mind. Rosemary essential oil helps improve circulation, which provides better blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles. A 2015 study even concluded that Rosemary essential oil was equally effective for hair growth as Minoxidil (think Rogaine)!
Peppermint essential oil works similarly to Rosemary, increasing circulation for healthier hair follicles. As an added bonus, it’s also anti-inflammatory and has a pleasant cooling sensation when applied to the scalp. Peppermint essential oil is best for normal to oily hair - if you have dry hair, try replacing the Peppermint in this recipe with Cedarwood, another essential oil widely known for its ability to help stimulate hair growth.
Lavender is a balancing essential oil, and when applied to the scalp can help balance oil production for both dry and oily hair. In addition, Lavender may reduce the inflammation associated with several conditions that can affect the health of hair follicles, which is essential for hair growth. Its calming properties is just the cherry on top - less stress means less hair loss!
Flaxseed can be a super powerful ingredient for our hair health; you just have to know how to use them. They have a natural tendency to form a gel-like structure when they come in contact with water. This gel, enriched with omega-3 fatty acids, enables hair growth while nourishing the hair follicles. The gel is water-based, so it gets absorbed very quickly into the hair and provides a moisturizing surge of nourishment.
Coconut oil contains certain kind of fats known as medium chain triglycerides. When applied to the skin, coconut oil has a moisturizing effect and it penetrates the scalp and the hair shaft for deep conditioning overnight. It can help reduce hair breakage and contribute to overall hair and scalp health. It can also be used during the day as a natural protectant from sun, wind, and pollutants in the air.
What you will need
-1/2 cup of flaxseeds
-2 cups of water
-4 T of coconut oil
-1/4 cup (more) water
-10 drops Lavender EO
-4 drops Peppermint EO
-3 drops Rosemary EO
To prepare the flaxseed gel, boil the flaxseeds with 2 cups of water for 7-8 minutes. Strain the mixture immediately (while it is still hot), and pour it into a heatproof container. Wait for the mixture to cool down so that it can thicken and turn into a gel. Now to this gel add the essential oils with a few tablespoons of water and coconut oil and mix well. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
Spray onto hair liberally, primarily focusing on the roots, and leave on overnight!
Use twice a week for best results.
