How Essential Oils Can Enhance Your Skincare

Baking bread. Cakes that look like other food. Skincare. They’re all having quite a resurgence at the moment. And while we can’t speak to the first two, at Wyndmere we know quite a bit about the third. Natural skincare products can add so much to your self-care routine. Curious about how? Let’s dive in!

How to Use Essential Oils on Skin

There are so many fun and easy ways to bring essential oils into skincare. Here are our top five:

  1. Mix them with an unscented lotion or moisturizer.
  2. Dilute them in your favorite carrier oil.
  3. Use a spray bottle and water with your essential oils for a hydrating facial mist.
  4. Add them to products you already have stashed in your make-up drawer, including toners or serums.
  5. Create a face mask. (Check out this recipe for inspiration!)

Dilute, Dilute, Dilute

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: be careful not to put undiluted essential oils on your skin. Whether you add water, unscented cream, or carrier oil, diluting essential oils is imperative to protecting your skin.

The Best Essential Oil for Skincare

Alright, now that you know how to use essential oils for your skincare, which ones should you use? Here are a few of our tried and true favorites:

Cedarwood - A nice woody aroma isn’t the only thing soothing about this oil. Cedarwood is commonly used to help improve skin tone and reduce inflammation. After all, who doesn’t want glowing skin?

Frankincense -  Ever since the days of Ancient Egyptians, this classic has been used for mature, dry, or problematic skin. Our recommendation? Try this one as a face mask or a beard oil!

Geranium - Because geranium is famous for helping to balance the skin’s production of sebum and can work as a natural astringent, it’s been one of our go-to’s. Try using it with an unscented lotion and applying it to a clean face. It can even work to improve both skin tone and elasticity.

The Best Essential Oil for Acne Scars

Tea Tree - Not only is Tea Tree oil used to clear pores, it also helps improve the appearance of blemishes, scars, and even age spots! Antioxidant and cleansing properties make it a must-have for the make-up drawer.

Wyndmere’s Clearer Skin Blend

Sometimes you want a combination of essential oils to get the job done. For that, try our Clearer Skin Blend. A combination of Lavender, Geranium, Rosemary, and Cedarwood (among others), it’s a beloved natural skincare product of ours. Dilute it with a carrier oil or unscented lotion and enjoy using it on your skin daily.
