Sunburn Spray with Lavender and Peppermint
Getting caught out in the sun without sunscreen is a bummer. It’s painful and can leave you feeling desperate for relief. Today we have a couple of recipes that can help get you through this unfortunate experience. Utilizing
Peppermint’s cooling properties and Lavender’s healing abilities we’ve created two recipes that will not disappoint. Safe for use on children, these are mom-created and mom-approved for the whole family. Before we get to the recipes a little bit about these two AMAZING essential oils.
Lavender
is known as the “Swiss Army Knife” of essential oils. Not only is it calming and helpful for stress relief and promoting a good night’s sleep, but it is also efficient for minor cases of cuts, bruises, skin irritations, and burns due to its antiseptic qualities - this makes it the first thing we grab when it comes to our children.
Peppermint
contains a significant amount of menthol which gives it a cooling sensation. Menthol is also known to help relax and ease tension headaches and minor muscular aches and pains.
The reason sunburns are so damaging to your skin is because exposure to ultraviolet rays produces free radicals in your body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that steal electrons from your healthier molecules to stabilize themselves. Antioxidants taken as supplements are helpful to health, but a topical application is more effective to protect your skin. That is why we have added Vitamin E oil to this spray along with our high-quality essential oils and witch hazel.
To make the cooling and healing spray you will need a
6oz Glass Mister Bottle. Simply add ingredients below and shake to combine.
- 10 Drops of Lavender
Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil

Fill the rest of the bottle with witch hazel (a popular herbal remedy recognized worldwide as a natural cleanser and toner. Witch hazel has many more uses than simply to clarify skin and shrink pores, including cooling properties!)
Shake before use and spray onto sunburn as needed for instant relief.
